Business Controls Manager

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

This position works directly with the City National Bank’s Business Control Officer and Senior Business Control Manager for Commercial Banking Products and partners with the Risk Framework leadership team. Responsibilities include supporting issue identification, solution design, and implementation using industry practices, coordinating with colleagues across the organization, and contributing constructively to balance challenges and align business objectives with CNB’s risk appetite and established limits.

BUSINESS CONTROLS MANAGER

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Partner in the development and implementation of risk‑related activities such as RCSA deliverables, control testing, audit support, and compliance initiatives. Analyze, evaluate, and periodically review current risk‑management practices across the organization, including network affiliates, and collaborate closely with the 2nd and 3rd lines to strengthen the control environment. Analyze data that impacts technical, operational, and business functions and provide insight on practical implications for the business line. Execute key risk‑program functions, including Risk and Control Self Assessments, Key Risk Indicators, Issue Management, and Operational Losses, and provide risk and control perspectives to teammates and business units. Contribute to a robust risk culture, risk conduct, and risk literacy within the first line of defense, designing preventive and detective controls for Commercial Banking Product activities. Conduct research, analyze, and interpret data to support strategies, initiatives, and organizational planning. Serve as the business‑team liaison for risk management, compliance, legal engagement, and internal or external audits. Represent the Business Control Office at internal and external meetings, establishing strong stakeholder relationships. Build and sustain effective relationships across the organization to ensure opportunities are identified, analyzed, and managed appropriately. Collaborate with team members to develop concise communication materials for senior management and compelling presentations for meetings. Prioritize organizational risk‑management objectives. Direct and participate in special projects as needed. Facilitate audit and examination activities and coach, mentor, and support risk talent development.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Minimum 8‑10 years of project management experience. Minimum 8‑10 years within or related to financial services. Additional Qualifications MBA, JD, or other advanced degree preferred. 8 years of project management experience. 7 years in a role requiring complex problem solving. Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate with peers and influence without direct control. Strong emerging end‑to‑end generalist problem‑solving skills. Defining and deconstructing problems. Prioritizing issues and analysis. Structuring and building quantitative and qualitative/conceptual analyses. Knowledge in Financial Services and Project Management. Demonstrated ability to influence change, build relationships, communicate effectively, work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high‑caliber results. Proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent time‑management, organizational, and prioritization skills. Diverse problem‑solving experience. Outstanding analytical skills, structured thinking, and exceptional attention to detail. Ability to operate well under stress and handle uncertainty. Significant experience driving operational change with front‑line and senior leadership. Excellent relationship and stakeholder‑management skills.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

Compensation Starting base salary: $99,000 – $176,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
