The Crew Leader at GeoVisions plays a critical leadership role in cultural resource management (CRM) projects, bridging field operations and administrative organization. They directly supervise small groups of field technicians during rotations, ensuring compliance with project methodologies, OR SHPO standards, and company protocols. This role supports the Field Director and Principal Investigator in implementing efficient data collection strategies, reviewing team outputs, and maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Fieldwork Leadership & Supervision
● Lead field technicians during rotations, ensuring adherence to project-specific methodologies and compliance protocols.
● Mentor and train field staff on survey and excavation methods, reviewing field notes and data for accuracy.
● Consult with the Field Director on strategies to improve data collection, efficiency, and team performance.
● Monitor quality and accuracy of fieldwork, ensuring consistency with SHPO/THPO and project guidelines. Administrative Support & Documentation
● Maintain and organize field documentation, reports, and records as directed by project leaders.
● Provide timely updates and feedback to Field Director and Principal Investigator.
● Support project tracking and ensure organizational systems are upheld.
Operational & Logistical Support
● Coordinate travel schedules, materials, and equipment needed for field rotations.
● Act as liaison between field crews and project managers, ensuring alignment with company standards.
● Support GeoVisions’ mission by promoting professionalism and high-quality outcomes in both field and administrative work. Training & Professional Development
● Provide mentorship and ongoing training for field technicians.
● Encourage team development and support continuous learning opportunities.
● Participate in professional growth opportunities, certifications, and trainings.
Education
Required:
● High school diploma or GED
● Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent experience
Preferred:
● Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology (Archaeology emphasis) or related field
● Training in GIS/Mapping programs (ArcGIS, Google Earth, state-specific databases)
Experience
Required:
● At least one full field season of CRM experience
● Demonstrated ability to work in team environments
Preferred:
● Experience supervising small crews across diverse projects
● Familiarity with Pacific Northwest archaeology
● Knowledge in specialized areas (e.g., cultural anthropology, historic archaeology)
Physical Requirements:
● Hike for 8–10 hours per day (with breaks for notes and recording), covering up to 10 miles in some instances. Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, and dust. Perform fieldwork in variable environments:
○ Dense vegetation
○ Rolling hills and changing elevations Areas with wildlife or livestock present
● Lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment and personal gear for survey and site setup. Prepare for extended time in remote outdoor settings with limited shade, shelter, or climate control.
● Ability to travel frequently and stay in temporary lodging (e.g., motels, remote field housing, Tribal facilities, or shared accommodations) depending on project location, environment, and duration.
