Academic Reading Intervention Specialist Department: St. Charles Mission School Report To: School Principal Job Code: Exempt 9-month position Salary Grade: Certified Salary Schedule Approved Date: 07/01/2022 Academic Intervention Specialist works extensively with students, both one-on-one or in small groups, to help them strengthen targeted reading and math skills. The goal is for these students to develop proficiency in the reading skills that contribute to their academic growth. The interventions will address the specific needs of a particular child when regular classroom instruction is not sufficient. This position is responsible for working with students in kindergarten through 4th grade, as well as periodically coaching teachers and support staff in reading strategies that can be used in the classroom. Complete and pass Safe Environment for the Diocese of Great Falls/Billings Partner with classroom teachers and school staff and actively engage in team-based planning and shared decision-making Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading instruction using a progress-monitoring instrument as a base Develop daily, interactive lesson plans and activities that are based on the individual needs of the students Regularly administer, as well as share results of, assessments or surveys which monitor a students abilities and attitudes towards learning and academic achievement Work with teachers to diagnose reading strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials Assist teachers and support staff in implementing the school's reading program Participate in educational conferences, professional development seminars, and workshops Work collaboratively with the classroom teachers and district personnel to coordinate reading and/or math instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students Work with school administration to facilitate the coordination of reading and math program with the total curriculum Must be willing to be trained in the school’s adopted reading intervention programs Facilitate grade level PLC’s Familiar with the RTI process and Tiered Instruction Perform other responsibilities as many, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; and one to three years related experience and/or training preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Valid Montana driver’s license preferred.
