Plainfield Fire Protection District – Firefighter/Paramedic The Plainfield Fire Protection District is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Firefighters and Paramedics. The role requires maintaining physical fitness, possessing requisite certifications, and meeting age, citizenship, and vision standards. Candidates must meet the following requirements. Requirements Written Examination – required. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) – required and must have a valid CPAT issued within 2 years at time of hire. Age – at least 20 years old to apply, 21 at conditional offer of employment; under 35 at time of test unless statutory exception. Citizenship – legally eligible to work in the US. High School Graduate or GED – required. Driver’s License – required. No adult felony convictions. Ability to read, speak, and write English – required. Vision – correctable to 20/20. No college requirement. Current valid OSFM BOF/FFII Certification and valid CPR Card. Illinois or National Registry EMT‑P Certification at date of conditional offer; enrollment in an IDPH‑approved paramedic program if not yet licensed. Valid CPAT as above. Preference Points Veteran’s Preference Points – 5 points . Applicants with at least one year active U.S. military service and honorable discharge receive five preference points. Required documentation: DD‑214, discharge evidence, sworn affidavit. Experience Preference Points – up to 5 points . Cadet Program enrollment: 2 points; completion of one year: 5 points. Outside District full‑time fire service: up to 2 points (½ point per year). Educational Preference Points – up to 4 points . Associate’s degree in fire service or EMS: 2 points. Bachelor’s degree in fire science: 4 points. Bachelor’s degree not related to fire science: 2 points. Residency Preference Points – up to 3 points . Principal residence within the District’s jurisdiction; current residents receive up to 3 points based on years of residency. Certifications Firefighter – Certified OSFM BOF/FFII. Paramedic – Certified Paramedic at time of hire; enrollment in paramedic school at application. CPAT – Valid CPAT issued within 2 years at time of hire.
