Summary: The Emergency Department Access Representative is responsible for registering all patients in both adult and pediatric emergency departments. This role involves completing the registration process for emergency patients and managing direct admits sent to the emergency department. Additionally, the representative collects patient liabilities upon discharge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Medical terminology proficiency is required within 90 days of employment. Preferred candidates have 1-2 years of insurance or clerical experience in a hospital or medical office setting, along with knowledge of insurance processes and payment collections. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and basic computer functions is essential. The role demands strong typing and data entry skills to meet departmental productivity standards. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as well as demonstrated customer service abilities across diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking skills are vital to handle the dynamic needs of patients, families, and visitors. The position may require periodic shift rotations and regular days off.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements: The role requires oral communication, visual and auditory acuity to collect information, and dexterity to operate office equipment. Prolonged periods of sitting or standing are expected, with exposure to low to moderate noise levels. Tasks include answering phone calls, extensive use of computers and business machines, and physical activities such as bending, reaching, pushing, pulling file drawers, transporting patients, and assisting with baggage. Lifting requirements include regularly moving up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
