Our client, a leading full-service Des Moines law firm, is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2-6 years of civil and/or commercial litigation experience to join its growing litigation practice.

This is a great opportunity for an attorney who wants more than just a narrow litigation niche. Attorneys in this role gain meaningful hands-on experience from day one, including motion practice, depositions, hearings, and courtroom exposure, while building a broad-based litigation practice with a clear path for long-term growth.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support a variety of civil litigation matters from inception through resolution
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and other litigation-related documents
• Conduct legal research and develop case strategy
• Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and court appearances
• Maintain direct communication with clients and opposing counsel
• Assist with trial preparation and trial-related activities
• Handle insurance defense and eviction-related matters while gaining exposure to broader commercial and civil litigation cases
• Collaborate closely with partners and senior attorneys on complex legal disputes

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school + licensed to practice law in Iowa and in good standing
• 2-6 years of civil litigation, commercial litigation, insurance defense, or other transferable litigation experience
• Strong academic credentials
• Proven legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Experience drafting motions, pleadings, and discovery materials
• Courtroom, deposition, hearing, or trial experience is preferred
• Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively in a collaborative environment
• Desire to continue developing as a litigator and build a long-term career with the firm
