Clinical Research Coordinator for Neuromuscular Disease Trials

Boston, MA About the Role The Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center provides world-class care for patients with neurological disorders and conditions. Our laboratory, under the direction of Department Chair, Dr. Seward Rutkove, focuses on translational research for the development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics to help treat neuromuscular diseases. This includes clinical therapeutic trials in ALS and other neuromuscular diseases and studies aimed at improving technologies that can help assess the effects of therapy. The Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for screening research subjects for participation in clinical research projects, enrolling research subjects onto these studies, monitoring protocol implementation, completing required forms and reporting results, and working with patients and healthy human participants in a team environment. Primary Responsibilities Recruit and enroll research subjects onto clinical research projects according to study protocols, with or without other clinical research staff. Assess research subjects' eligibility for specific protocols and verify eligibility criteria with research nurses or principal investigators. Discuss informed consent with research subjects and interact with them throughout the entire treatment, including assisting with scheduling appointments and follow‑up tests. Learn protocol and monitor strict adherence by physicians, nurses, and research subjects; identify problems with compliance and notify the principal investigator or research nurse. Extract data from hospital records, outpatient charts, and private physician office records, and enter data into a computerized system to complete case report forms. Assist clinic staff in obtaining insurance approval for subject participation and scheduling tests or admissions for subjects. Assist investigators with correspondence with the Institutional Review Board. As needed, perform other duties related to clinical research studies. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. 0–1 year of related work experience. Knowledge of medical terminology. Working knowledge of computer systems, including web‑based applications and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Some duties may be sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand or move throughout the hospital campus. Pay Range $19.23 – $28.37 per hour.
