Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking a skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to join our team. The unit is equipped with:

• 10 Labor and Delivery beds
• 4 OB ED (Triage beds)
• 4 Antepartum rooms

We welcome travelers with 1 year of experience; however, 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience in a Level 3 or higher NICU is preferred.

Our Labor and Delivery unit caters to a diverse range of pregnant patients, including:

• High-risk patients with various complications
• Low-intervention laboring patients
• Antepartum, OB triage/ED, postpartum, and infants

Patient Ratios:

• Antepartum: 1:3
• Inactive Labor: 1:2
• Active Labor: 1:1
• Postpartum/Couplet care: 1:3 couplets

Applicants must have the following certifications:

• Required: BLS, NRP
• Preferred: ACLS, certification in inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum

Experience with EPIC charting, managing high acuity labor patients, IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, and other critical competencies is required. Candidates must also be comfortable with couplet care and caring for normal newborns, including Level I and Level II nursery patients.

Completion of a nursing education program accredited by a board of nursing is required. Candidates must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Dakota.

The unit provides various support roles including:

• Unit Secretary
• Scrub Tech support for L&D RNs
• Charge Nurse
• VAT team availability
• Respiratory Therapy (RT) on call 24/7
• OB Physician team
• Anesthesia/CRNA support

The charting system utilized in the unit is EPIC.

Orientation includes:

• 4 days with a preceptor (3 in L&D, 1 in postpartum)

Shifts are typically 12 hours, with variable scheduling including night and weekend rotations. Holiday work may be required based on unit needs.

Candidates will be expected to work across postpartum/couplet care units throughout their contract and may also be placed on low census call.
