Job Title: Dimensional Quality Inspector Reports To: Plant Quality Engineer FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary: $22.00-$28.00 Location: Lakeville Position Summary The Dimensional Quality Inspector is responsible for performing dimensional inspections of fabricated and welded components throughout the manufacturing process to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, and internal quality standards. This position supports quality by conducting in-process inspections within the Fabrication and Welding departments, identifying nonconforming conditions, documenting inspection results, and assisting with corrective actions when required. The Dimensional Quality Inspector is also responsible for performing detailed dimensional measurements for Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions and first‑of‑kind products, ensuring complete and accurate documentation of dimensional compliance. This position serves as a key quality resource within the organization, and works closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality personnel to maintain product conformity and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities In-Process Inspection Perform dimensional inspections of fabricated, welded, and assembled products during various stages of production. Verify product conformity to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions. Conduct inspections of critical dimensions, hole locations, weldment geometry, fit‑up conditions, and assembly features. Identify and document nonconforming conditions and communicate findings to production personnel and supervisors. Assist in the containment and segregation of nonconforming material when required. Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to dimensional nonconformances. PPAP and First Article Inspection Perform comprehensive dimensional inspections for PPAP submissions, first article inspections, and first‑of‑kind products. Record dimensional results accurately on PPAP forms, inspection reports, and customer‑required documentation. Verify that all required characteristics are measured and documented according to customer and internal requirements. Documentation and Reporting Complete inspection reports accurately and in a timely manner. Enter inspection results into quality records, databases, and/or spreadsheets. Maintain traceability and retention of inspection documentation as required by company procedures. Continuous Improvement and Compliance Participate in quality improvement initiatives and problem‑solving activities. Support internal audits and quality system requirements. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Quality Engineer. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required Technical degree, trade school certification, or coursework in manufacturing, welding, fabrication, or quality assurance preferred. Experience & Technical Skills Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Experience inspecting fabricated and welded products strongly preferred. Experience with dimensional inspection and measurement techniques preferred. Experience supporting PPAP, First Article Inspection (FAI), or related quality documentation is a plus. Ability to read, interpret, and understand Engineering, fabrication, and assembly drawings. Ability to understand dimensional tolerances and basic GD&T concepts. Proficient in the use of measuring instruments and basic inspection tools, including: Tape Measures Combination squares Protractors and angle‑measuring devices Calipers Other dimensional inspection equipment as required Ability to accurately record and document inspectional results. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and electronic ERP and inspection documentation software. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and measurement conversions. Authority to elevate unresolved issues to leadership. Work Environment & Location On‑site role at AES’s Lakeville, MN and (occasionally) Northfield, MN facilities. Regular presence on the production floor (standing, walking, interacting with fabrication processes) Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions (noise, welding, material handling) Candidates must be able to commute to or relocate to Lakeville, MN prior to employment.
