Communications Coordinator

Position Summary Under general supervision, this role supports communication and public relations activities for the School of Medicine–Columbia, South Carolina Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare. The candidate works closely with the Center’s directors, operations manager, and program managers to support ongoing Center and project communications, public and stakeholder relations, and content development. The position is established in support of expanded research activities. Responsibilities Coordinate Center internal and external communication efforts. Develop, implement, evaluate and annually review center‑wide communication plan to coordinate internal and external communications. Support Center and program‑specific goals by developing tailored communication materials and content, using appropriate software and tools. Disseminate program‑specific results through appropriate channels, media outlets, and social media. Report progress to the Director. Coordinate Center marketing efforts and content development. Help gather information, coordinate contractors supporting writing, graphic design, and video/photography. Create branded materials, assist with email marketing and other tactics including print, electronic marketing, and social media. Support content development for publication, including social media, center publications, and annual report. Update the center website. Report progress to the Center Director as needed. Coordinate public and stakeholder relations for the Center, including developing and disseminating Center specific information to existing stakeholders and identifying new partners. Manage media requests. Support yearly reporting and presentations to various stakeholders. Support ongoing Center branding efforts, ensuring branding is incorporated throughout. Coordinate with external contractors for dissemination needs. Maintain Center distribution lists, including collecting and updating participants as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum required education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 2 or more years of related experience (can be substituted by equivalent certification, training, education, or experience). Preferred: Master’s degree and 1 year related program experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience. Previous experience in communications, marketing, public relations and knowledge of communication and marketing principles. Writing and content development experience. Excellent customer and stakeholder relations skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Experience with computer‑based documentation and communication. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong oral and written communication skills and presentation skills.
