Library Specialist Supervisor

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Library Specialist, Supervisor. Additional vacancies may be filled from this recruitment for a different location within the library system. This position may be assigned to any location within the Libraries Division based on operational needs. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education. Four (4) years of library operations and processes experience, including two (2) years of lead work/supervisory experience. Special Certifications and Licenses None. Preferences Bachelor's degree or higher or closely related field At least four (4) years of experience with an integrated Library System At least three (3) years of cash handling experience One year or more experience operating audio/visual equipment One year or more experience planning and implementing programs and preparing publications/promotional materials that support public programs At least six (6) months of project planning experience Six (6) months or more experience in grant writing Scope of Work General Description Supervises library employees and manages activities at a particular branch or cluster. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee lending library materials to customers through coordination of shelving, holds, returns and maintenance of customer circulation reports for branch and cluster. Supervise cash handling procedures and related reports, ensuring staff complies with Libraries Division cash handling procedures. Provide public service at service desks, assisting customers with basic information, location of materials, account problems and POS transactions, orientation, and new library card issuance. Ensure that County policies and Library procedures are adhered to and explained to staff and customers as needed. Select, train, supervise, counsel and evaluate staff; maintain performance logs; complete appraisals; address performance concerns and set goals to enable employees to meet expectations. Serve as a member of the management team of the library in collaboration with manager and other section supervisors. Develop processes and procedures through participation in system‑wide committees; test new technologies and services and make recommendations before system-wide implementation; assist in the development of training manuals. Serve as a system-wide resource person for Circulation and Programming Services; explain updated policies and procedures and train staff for implementation. Contribute to a safe environment by addressing customer code of conduct violations and escalating matters to the Supervisor in Charge (SIC) and/or contacting appropriate authorities as needed. Initiate and prepare program schedules using library themes as guidelines; research and hire speakers, presenters/performers, vendors, non‑profits and authors; book photographers, sound and lighting technicians. Develop, coordinate, plan and implement large‑scale special events and coordinate programming for key initiatives and new programs throughout the library system. Prepare correspondence, notifications, forms and related documents to communicate information to staff and the public; collect usage statistics and submit various reports as required. Prepare press releases and information to promote programs via email, flyers, and through social media; submit information to e‑calendars; work with marketing to design and proof posters, brochures, flyers, web design, signage, programs and schedules.
