Nurse Practitioner, Radiation Oncology

This position is an outpatient APRN role in radiation oncology caring for pediatric oncology patients receiving photon or proton radiation therapy. Representative Responsibilities Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in area of expertise. Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions. Formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including diets, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary by patient history and/or physical exam. Provide clinical consultation, order interdisciplinary consults. Professional practice including prescription of medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy. Develop measurable outcomes as goals that provide direction for continuity of care and consistency among providers. Create individualized comprehensive plan of care. Address each diagnosis or issue as appropriate. Derive outcomes and plans of care that involve patient/family/caregiver when possible and realistic. Consider risks/benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, evidence and expertise to formulate interventions, treatments & outcomes. Incorporate new knowledge & strategies to initiate change. Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards, participate in quality improvement and research to improve care delivery and outcomes. Engage in lifelong learning and professional development. Serve as preceptor, model or mentor; contribute to peers’ development, foster profession growth. Integrate ethical considerations and research findings. Provide leadership by participating on committees or organizations, or writing/publishing/presenting. Advocate for the pediatric patient/family/caregiver. Lead and influence healthcare/APP practice and policy. Manage care: maintain competency, promote self‑management & family‑centered care, employ diverse strategies and teaching. Provide leadership to achieve optimal quality and cost‑effective care. Document and communicate with team for integrated delivery. Delegate monitoring, assessment and interventions per patient scope. Provide consultation to influence plan, enhance others’ abilities, effect change in system. Make referrals and discuss recommendations. Order & perform treatments, therapies, procedures based on current knowledge. Provide diagnostic results and benefits/limitations of therapies. Use systematic, ongoing evaluation of assessment data and outcomes to revise diagnoses, outcomes, plan and implementation. Evaluate accuracy of diagnosis and effectiveness of interventions and plan strategies relative to expected outcomes. Include patient/family/caregiver and other providers. Base evaluation on advanced knowledge, practice, research. Use results to recommend structural changes, policies or procedures. Qualifications Masters degree in a related field. May require clinical license, certification or training OR Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges. Multi-state licensure in addition to Ohio licensure may be required based on subspecialty. Preferred: 2 years of oncology experience (RN or APP). Experience in acute settings such as PICU is also considered. APRN experience is not required. Certification: FNP, Acute Care, Primary Care, etc. Specialty experience preferred: Oncology. Schedule Shift lengths: 5 days per week, 8‑hour days. Day shift only; weekends occasional; no holidays; no call.
