Mid-Level Architect / Project ArchitectAbout the Role

We are seeking a talented Mid-Level Architect / Project Architect to support the design and technical delivery of complex embassy campus projects around the world. This position offers an excellent opportunity to take on greater project ownership while serving as a key connection between junior team members and senior project leadership. The ideal candidate enjoys both design and technical problem-solving and is interested in expanding their leadership experience while contributing to high-profile international and government projects.

You will play an important role in project development by supporting schematic design efforts, producing and coordinating construction documentation, collaborating with consultants, and helping mentor less experienced staff.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Documentation

  • Develop and coordinate comprehensive Revit-based construction document packages throughout all phases of project delivery.

  • Prepare detailed drawing sets from schematic design through construction documentation, maintaining consistency, accuracy, and clarity.

  • Support drawing organization, technical detailing, and documentation efforts to facilitate efficient project execution.

  • Implement design revisions, markups, and project updates while maintaining established project standards and quality expectations.

  • Contribute to early design concepts and help translate design intent into well-coordinated, construction-ready documents.

Technical Coordination & Quality Control

  • Coordinate architectural documentation with engineering consultants and other project disciplines to ensure fully integrated project deliverables.

  • Assist with quality control reviews by identifying and resolving coordination issues before major project milestones.

  • Support technical problem-solving efforts and help address design and documentation challenges.

  • Participate in project planning and coordination meetings to align scope, schedules, and deliverables across teams and disciplines.

Project Support & Leadership

  • Support Project Architects and Project Managers in day-to-day project execution and technical delivery.

  • Participate in schematic design, design development, and construction documentation phases.

  • Collaborate with both junior and senior staff to maintain project schedules and meet key project objectives.

  • Share technical knowledge and provide informal mentorship to developing team members.

  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on quality, professional growth, and successful project outcomes.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Coordinate with consultants, engineers, and internal project teams to resolve design and technical issues.

  • Communicate project information and updates effectively to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Participate in design discussions and contribute solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, constructability, and client objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.

  • 5 to 7+ years of professional architectural experience.

  • Experience supporting projects through schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.

  • Strong proficiency in Revit, including the preparation of coordinated construction document packages for commercial or institutional projects.

  • Ability to make design revisions and documentation updates throughout project development.

  • Familiarity with construction documentation and construction administration processes.

  • Experience reviewing drawings and identifying multidisciplinary coordination issues.

  • Strong architectural design capabilities and understanding of design development workflows.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Interest in mentoring junior staff and contributing to a collaborative team culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Architectural licensure preferred, but not required.

  • Experience with institutional, civic, federal, international, or embassy-related projects.

  • Exposure to government or federally funded projects.

  • Interest in obtaining a Secret security clearance and supporting secure government assignments.

  • Experience collaborating with engineering consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Ability to contribute to conceptual design efforts and architectural problem-solving.

  • Interest in advancing toward Project Architect, Project Manager, or professional licensure career paths.

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments with multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
