Job Description and Duties
The selected individual will assist in the habitat development & infrastructure maintenance of Gray Lodge Wildlife Area. Some duties will include the operation wheeled tractor, dozer, backhoe, grader and other equipment and vehicles. Use this equipment in connection with attachments such as discs, mowers, seeders, and scrapers in order to create and maintain wetland and upland habitat as well as the associated levees and access roads. Operate spray equipment and use herbicides to control invasive plants. Performs a variety of manual labor.
Construction and routine maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, vehicles, and equipment are common tasks. The construction and maintenance of fences and posting boundaries of the wildlife areas will be conducted. The incumbent will maintain area facilities and equipment, including, buildings, shops, check stations, water control structures, irrigation devices, access roads, levees, and public use facilities.Maintain vehicle logs and equipment service records for all equipment and vehicles.
Gray Lodge is has a large public use program. During open seasons, incumbent will operate hunter check stations by issuing permits, effectively communicating with the public by answering their questions, identifying species and number harvested and recording/tracking harvest data.
Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) (Area Manager), the incumbent in this position will assist in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area. Perform the semi-skilled and routine work involved in maintaining both aquatic and terrestrial habitats in the area. Construct and perform routine maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, vehicles, and equipment; fence and post boundaries of wildlife areas; maintain area facilities and equipment. Funding for this position comes from Pittman Robertson federal funding. Residency in state owned housing is available and required.
Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. Please note that the salary ranges listed in this Job Control may not reflect these reductions associated with the 2025 Personal Leave Program.

Special Requirements
Physical strength and agility; ability to swim 50 yards and stay afloat for at least five minutes; and the ability to lift forty (40) pounds. Good driving record; knowledge of fishing, hunting, outdoors or studying fish, wildlife, invertebrates or plants; experience in camping boating and maintaining or repairing equipment.
This position requires possession of a valid Driver's License. The selected candidate will be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration.
The selected candidate may be required to provide transcripts (may be unofficial).
