Temporary Staff Attorney

Temporary Staff Attorney – LegalHealth, NYLAG LegalHealth, a division of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), has an immediate opening for a temporary staff attorney. This position is temporary, lasting through September4,2026. Spanish fluency is required. LegalHealth partners with medical professionals in 38 hospitals throughout NewYork to provide free legal services in medical facilities, and trains healthcare staff to understand legal issues that affect their patients. Duties and Responsibilities Staff two weekly legal clinics: one at Betances Health Center in the Lower East Side and one at BronxCare Health System in the Bronx. Provide periodic clinic coverage for other sites as schedule permits. Offer legal services on a wide range of issues, including benefits, housing, employment, immigration, and advance planning. Periodically train medical staff on legal issues and advocate strategies at large trainings and one‑on‑one case consultations. Maintain an in‑person presence at the hospital legal clinic two days per week and fulfill hospital clearance requirements. Qualifications Admitted to practice law in NewYork. Excellent communication skills. Strong research and writing skills. Ability to empathize with clients’ challenges and problem‑solve effectively. Demonstrated interest in working with low‑income, disabled, or disadvantaged clients. Spanish fluency is required.
