Substitute Nurse

Hillsboro R-III School District is seeking substitute nurses for the 2026-2027 school year. Pay: $130/day or $65.00/half day. Substitute nurses will work under the supervision of the district head nurse and building principal, and in the absence of the building nurse. District substitutes are paid on a two times a month basis on the 15th and last day of each month.

Position Summary:

Providing health services to students and school personnel by promoting, protecting, maintaining, and improving health to provide the fullest educational opportunity at Hillsboro R-3 School District.

Essential Duties:

• Participates in medical examinations and reviews findings to evaluate health status of pupils and progress of programs.
• Authorizes exclusion and re-admission of students in connections with infectious and contagious diseases.
• Provides first-aid, and maintains health records of students.
• Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of school children.
• Responsible for screening vision, blood pressure, head lice, measurements of height and weight.
• Assumes responsibility for referral of students in need of medical or dental care.
• Observes and advises students regarding health history and nutritional history.
• Assumes responsibility for the care of students or staff who have suffered injuries or emergency illnesses.
• Administers medications according to school policy.
• Maintains daily log of pupils seen in health unit and an up-to-date cumulative health records of all students.
• Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
• Prepares and submits reports for the superintendent and state agencies including the required annual immunization report and scoliosis report.
• Recognizes and refers students encountering medical, physical and/or psychological problems.
• Provides guidance and training to others and gives input regarding aides performance.
• Responsible for the health unit including: requisitioning of supplies and equipment, inventory, supervision of auxiliary personnel and volunteers.
• Participates in evaluations of students and staffing as requested.
• Establishes and maintains appropriate working relationships by actively communicating with parents.
• Performs additional tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Health.
