Speech and Language Pathologist
The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for identifying, assessing, and providing therapy for students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication disorders. The SLP collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that enhance students' communication skills, supporting their academic success and overall well-being.

FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Term: 187 Days
Compensation: MCBOE Salary Schedule
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited program
- Current Alabama Speech-Language Pathology license issued by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) (preferred)
- Experience working with young children and families in an educational or community-based setting
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as needed
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license required
- Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations to diagnose speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication disorders in students
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students requiring speech and language services, ensuring measurable goals and outcomes
- Provide individual and group therapy, focusing on articulation, fluency, voice, receptive/expressive language, and social communication
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement in communication skills
- Conduct screenings and early intervention services for at-risk students based on Alabama Administrative Code requirements
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to integrate communication strategies into the classroom and home environment
- Provide consultation and training to general and special education teachers and other school staff on effective speech-language strategies
- Develop and conduct professional development sessions for employees on supporting students with communication challenges
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as a key member of the team, contributing speech and language expertise to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Work with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) teams to identify and support students needing early intervention or specialized services
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments, progress reports, therapy sessions, and other required documentation in compliance with state, federal, and district policies
- Participate in IEP compliance audits and special education reporting processes, as required by state and district policies
- Support families in understanding their child's speech and language needs and provide resources for home-based support
- Advocate for assistive technology and communication devices for students who require augmentative and alternative communication
- Promote awareness of speech and language disorders within the school community through parent workshops and outreach programs
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education and/or Director of Federal Programs

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
