Registered Professional Land Surveyor

Our client, a growing professional land surveying and geospatial firm in North Texas, is seeking a Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) to provide professional oversight, direct supervision, technical review, quality assurance, and signing and sealing of professional survey deliverables. This is an opportunity for an experienced RPLS who wants to help grow and strengthen surveying operations, mentor a team, and work with clients—or for a professional who prefers a more focused role centered on surveying decisions, technical review, QA/QC, and professional responsibility. The position does not require day-to-day management of employees, scheduling, billing, estimating, sales, or general company operations. Position Summary The RPLS will assume professional responsibility for surveying work performed under their direct supervision and have the professional authority necessary to fulfill obligations under Texas law and applicable TBPELS rules. The role will involve reviewing survey research, field data, calculations, boundary evidence, CAD drawings, legal descriptions, plats, easement and right-of-way exhibits, and other professional surveying documents. The RPLS will identify deficiencies and direct additional research, fieldwork, calculations, or revisions when professionally necessary before approving, signing, or sealing final deliverables. Key Responsibilities Provide professional oversight and direct supervision of surveying work requiring an RPLS under Texas law and TBPELS rules. Establish, review, or approve appropriate surveying methodology and professional decisions. Review deeds, plats, title commitments, easements, right-of-way documents, adjoining property records, previous surveys, and other relevant records. Direct or approve the collection of appropriate field data and survey evidence. Provide professional direction regarding monumentation and the placement or acceptance of survey monuments. Review field notes, field data, calculations, control information, boundary evidence, and project documentation. Review survey drawings prepared by CAD and survey production personnel. Review boundary determinations and make or approve final professional surveying decisions. Review legal descriptions, plats, easement exhibits, right-of-way exhibits, and other professional surveying documents. Identify deficiencies, inconsistencies, or additional research or fieldwork required before a survey is completed. Direct additional fieldwork, research calculations, or revisions when professionally necessary. Perform final quality assurance and quality control of survey deliverables. Sign, date, and seal professional surveying work for which the RPLS has provided the required professional supervision and is prepared to accept full professional responsibility. Ensure final professional surveying documents comply with applicable Texas statutes, TBPELS rules, standards of practice, and project requirements. Communicate required corrections and professional decisions clearly to field crews, CAD personnel, survey technicians, and leadership. Ability to satisfy applicable Texas and TBPELS requirements for a full-time RPLS employed by a registered surveying firm. Strong knowledge of Texas boundary law, professional surveying standards, and TBPELS rules. Experience with boundary and topographic surveying. Strong understanding of survey research, deeds, plats, easements, right-of-way, monumentation, boundary evidence, and legal descriptions. Ability to independently analyze survey evidence and make defensible professional surveying decisions. Experience reviewing survey drawings, calculations, field information, and supporting documentation. Strong attention to detail, professional judgment, and commitment to quality. Ability and willingness to direct additional work or corrections when necessary before sealing a survey. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate with field crews, CAD technicians, survey technicians, operations staff, and company leadership. High standards of professional ethics, accountability, and integrity. Preferred Qualifications ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys Commercial development and subdivision platting Municipal surveying Transportation or TxDOT-related work Airport surveying Construction staking Easements and right-of-way Trimble surveying equipment, Trimble Access, and Trimble Business Center GNSS/RTK positioning and robotic total stations UAS/drone mapping and photogrammetry LiDAR and terrestrial laser scanning For an RPLS who wants greater involvement, the role may include mentoring crew chiefs and survey technicians, developing future Surveyors-in-Training or RPLSs, improving surveying procedures and QA/QC systems, helping establish standards and workflows, assisting with complex project planning, participating in client meetings, and supporting the continued growth of the surveying operation. For an experienced RPLS who prefers a more focused professional role, the position can remain centered on professional direct supervision, survey research and boundary analysis, technical decision-making, field and CAD review, QA/QC, professional direction, and final review and sealing of qualifying survey deliverables.
