Compensation Annual Pay Range: $52,035.77 - $65,337.29 Hourly Pay Range: $25.017197 - $31.412158 Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position. We are looking to hire hard-working, enthusiastic individuals to fill five (5) full-time Transportation Maintenance Specialist 1 vacancies in the County's Transportation Maintenance Division. This is an exciting opportunity to learn a trade at the entry level, where you will be provided all of the necessary on-the-job training you will need in your career with us. The Transportation Maintenance program within the Department of Transportation and Development is responsible for maintenance of road surfaces, shoulders and ditches, culvert and storm water drainage, bridge maintenance, ferry maintenance, striping, sign work, and road patching for roughly 1,400 miles of county roads. If selected for one of the vacancies, you will be primarily responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled tasks to assist in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of road, bridge, traffic markings and signs, maintenance and repair equipment, and ferry operation. In this role, you will typically work as part of a team, so it is critical to have strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills to succeed in this position. Your Future: The Transportation Maintenance Specialist 1 is part of a promotional career path. Incumbents in the Transportation Maintenance Specialist 1 classification may be promoted to higher Transportation Maintenance Specialist series classifications upon completion of the approved training and development plan. This allows you to promote up to a Transportation Maintenance Specialist 4 through a series of higher level training and internal promotional opportunities. Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire Experience using hand tools (ex: chain saw) and/or power tools Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills: Traffic control experience ODOT Traffic Flagging Certification Experience in road construction or road work, including using standards or guidelines for occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safe operation of equipment Experience as a Seasonal worker in public works, utilities, or construction industry Experience as a Seasonal Road Maintenance Assistant with Clackamas County Pre-employment Requirements Must be able to work Monday-Thursday from 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Must be willing to work in all-weather conditions, including heat, rain, or other season-appropriate weather conditions Must pass a post-offer, non-DOT, pre-employment drug test Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. Please Note: This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location. WORKING CONDITIONS Duties require frequent to continuous standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, balancing, digging, climbing, overhead reaching and repetitive grasping and fine motor manipulation. The ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds, and push/pull 100 pounds. Duties also involve frequent to continuous exposure to loud noises, vibration, slippery and/or uneven surfaces, dust, fumes from exhaust, paint and welding, hot oil, asphalt, and chemicals, working at heights, traffic and electrical hazards, and adverse weather conditions including extreme temperatures. Transportation Maintenance Specialists (TMS) may perform after-hours emergency response to road closures as needed. All work is performed outdoors (regardless of weather conditions), and sometimes in highly congested traffic areas. TMS1 employees are considered weather essential employees and are required to report to work to support critical County operations in the event of an emergency, disaster, or adverse weather conditions.
