Completes the registration process for emergency patients and direct admits sent to the emergency department. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:/pulliRegisters emergency service patients in a fast-paced environment, creating patient accounts within (90) seconds of patients arrival/liliQueries EAD and enters accurate patient demographics into the computer system to obtain the correct patient medical record number and account number/liliResponsible for placing patient identification armbands on all Emergency Department patients after accounts are created to ensure patient safety/liliDuring the registration process, the ED Access Representative obtains all demographic, guarantor, and insurance information and accurately document information into the registration system/liliPatients being placed in observation or admission status, the ED Access Representative will obtain a physician order to support services rendered./liliPerforms insurance eligibility/benefit verification, utilizing an EDI transaction and documenting information within the appropriate registration system/liliInforms patient/guarantor of their liabilities and collects appropriate patient co-payments, co-insurances, deductibles, and deposits at the point of discharge/liliProvides timely and continual coverage of assigned work area in order to offer prompt patient service and be available for all clinical partners registration needs/liliOther duties as assigned/li/ulh3Minimum Qualifications/h3pThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:/ph3Education and Formal Training:/h3ulliHigh school diploma or equivalent required/liliCollege courses in Business, Medical Office Administration, Health Care Administration, and/or Computer Technology preferred/li/ulh3Work Experience:/h3ulli2 years insurance/clerical experience within a hospital or medical office setting preferred/li/ulh3Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:/h3ulliKnowledge of insurance and collection of payments preferred/liliKnowledge of Microsoft Windows and basic functionality of personal computer/liliAbility to type and perform data entry functions/liliExcellent verbal and written communication skills/liliCustomer service skills to a variety of customers from different cultural and economic backgrounds preferred/liliCritical thinking skills and ability to problem-solve and multi-task/liliAbility to appropriately handle complexity and stress with the changing needs of the patients, families, visitors, and the Health System/li/ulh3Physical Requirements:/h3ulliAbility to communicate orally, see, and hear to collect information/liliManual dexterity to operate office equipment/liliSubject to eyestrain due to the many hours spent looking at a computer screen/liliSitting or standing in intervals for long periods of time/liliNoise level is low to moderate/liliAnswers telephone calls, uses personal computer, and other business machines extensively/liliBends, reaches, pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reports/liliAbility to transport patients and assist with baggage/liliRegularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds/li/ulpRequired Licenses and Certifications/ppCape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity/p/div
