Provide rapid assessment and treatment to patients in the initial phase of illness or trauma and often in life‑threatening situations, the nurse will have an understanding of triage and the importance of being able to prioritize injuries/conditions based on medical need. The nurse must have the ability to make quick and accurate assessments about incoming patients, including both physical and mental conditions. Time management is crucial in this position. The nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The nurse will be competent in working in the Emergency Department along with Fast Track. Able to deliver safe, efficient, quality patient care, which consists of assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation. Initiates plans and participates in patient and family education. Maintains the standards for professional nursing. Works in collaboration with all members of the healthcare team, as well as with the patients, families and visitors. Essential Functions Gathers subjective and objective data through the performance of a nursing history and physical assessment as well as the gathering of information from the chart and other members of the health care team. Evaluates patient response to care provided and documents the care and response to care in a concise manner using the format designated by departmental protocols or appropriately in electronic medical record. Documentation will be complete and thorough. Identifies learning needs of the patient and/or family, assesses the ability of patient and or family member to learn and readiness. Provides educational materials and experiences that will meet the educational, developmental, functional and or ethnic needs of the patient or family. Will care for the patient until the patient is discharged, transferred, or admitted to the hospital. Provides an accurate account of patient status to others responsible for the patient’s/resident’s care to help ensure continuity of care. Evaluates nursing practice and nursing environment and contributes to the development of high standards to ensure quality care. Attends staff meetings and in‑services as required by Powell Valley Healthcare and by accrediting agencies. Participates in special projects or assignments. Actively participates in professional development / maintaining competency by attending educational programs offered inside and outside of the organization. Works collaboratively with all members of the health care team. Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the health care team, including but not limited to Physicians and Emergency Medical Services personnel. Cares for the patients seen in the ED without judgement and in fair and equitable manner. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Education And Experience Required Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Have at least one year of clinical nursing experience (Emergency Department or ICU experience preferred) Registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Wyoming. Associates (required) BSN (preferred). TNCC within one year of hire BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP for Healthcare Provider completed within three months of hire. Other certificates as required by position’s clinical area Skills And Abilities Required Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with employees, leadership, physicians, regulatory agencies and the public. Multiply, and divide, compute rate, ratio, and percent in order to accurately determine medication dosages and establish accurate intravenous rates. Knowledgeable in metric and appropriate measurements and can convert from one system to the other as needed. Competency in basic computer skills through the capacity to learn and apply electronic applications. Work with confused or combative patients Professional communication skills, both verbal and written. Speak and document clearly and concisely. Communicate effectively and professionally with members of the Health Care Team. Solve practical problems Demonstrates an awareness of cost effective patient care delivery. Demonstrates competency in psychosocial and psychomotor aspects of nursing. Implements nursing actions by either direct care or delegation of that responsibility, based on level of acuity and individual patient need. Understands and reacts effectively to unique needs of patients whose age may range from premature infant to elderly adult. Reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
