Salary & Compensation

Role Summary

The Lead HVAC Technician diagnoses, services, repairs, and maintains comprehensive heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and commercial refrigeration systems across all school district locations. Reporting to the Plant Department Foreman/Director, this position coordinates multi-trade work orders, oversees inventory and supply ordering, manages computer-based energy controls, and serves as a critical emergency responder for after-hours climate or safety failures.

Why You'll Succeed (Qualifications)

• Educationally Prepared: Holder of an active degree, diploma, or advanced trade certificate in the HVAC/R field.
• EPA Certified Master: Certified as a Universal Technician by an EPA-approved certifying organization (Section 608) required.
• Proven Field Record: Minimum of two (2) years of commercial/industrial field experience directly diagnosing, repairing, and servicing large-scale central AC systems, industrial chillers, air handlers, and pneumatic/electrical control networks.
• The System Specialist: Demonstrated competency servicing low-pressure steam/hot water boiler systems as well as commercial kitchen refrigeration assets (walk-in freezers, milk boxes, etc.).
• Tech-Driven Operator: Experience operating multiple variations of computer-based Energy Management Systems (EMS) and digital control platforms.
• Fleet Ready: Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record and a proven ability to operate medium-duty district fleet trucks.
• The Reliable Responder: Exceptional attendance record with the absolute flexibility to work overtime on short notice to mitigate climate issues impacting school days.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

• Advanced Diagnostics & Repair: Isolate root causes of equipment failures across packaged HVAC systems, air handlers, pneumatic/electrical controls, water loop recirculation pumps, and commercial kitchen assets.
• System Component Fabrication: Fabricate specialty equipment parts when replacement components are unavailable or require immediate custom modification.
• Preventative System Inspections: Systematically inspect units, building exhaust fans, and boiler loops to evaluate conditions and execute aggressive preventative maintenance roadmaps.
• Energy Management Systems (EMS): Operate and monitor district-wide, computer-based energy control software to optimize system run times and ensure strict efficiency.
• Cross-Trade Coordination: Collaborate fluidly with the assigned Foreman and other skilled tradespeople to complete district modernization and installation projects seamlessly.
• Logistics & Inventory Mastery: Formulate material requests, manage critical equipment inventory, and safely transport heavy parts, gauges, recovery systems, and tools to job sites.
• Compliance Documentation: Keep accurate, detailed digital logs and written reports regarding work order status, refrigerant tracking, and safety compliance.
• Emergency Safety Guard: Respond rapidly to dynamic, building-wide emergency system failures during or after regular contract hours.

• Physical Demands (Plant Standard): This position is highly strenuous. Must be capable of lifting up to 100 lbs., working comfortably off high ladders and scaffolding, maneuvering within highly confined utility spaces, and executing frequent twisting, bending, and stretching.
