Union Data Center Technician (Traveler)

Position Overview Union Data Center Technician – 3‑month traveling project (100% travel). Base location: Abernathy, TX (just north of Lubbock, TX). Responsibilities Install and decommission network and cabling infrastructure in a data center environment. Deliver sustainable, repeatable solutions and processes with a focus on continuous improvement. Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders. Maintain quality workmanship, data‑center cleanliness, and comply with safety and quality standards. Collaborate with stakeholders to remove project obstacles. Read and interpret blueprints, design documents, and redline work. Perform field terminations, labeling, and cable pulling (low‑voltage, copper, and fiber). Operate testers (DSX 5000, OTDR), program them, and upload test results to Linkware. Conduct copper and fiber testing, troubleshooting, and splice operations (fusion splice, ribbon/ISP, single OSP). Manage and maintain orderly paperwork, service calls, and team communication. Install ladder racks, seismic bracing, and other infrastructure in data centers. When necessary, conduct live network device swaps and differentiate live from decom cables. Use the “FIM” database and related scanners. Qualifications Experience with basic telecom hand tools and familiarity with wiring schemes. Clear understanding of customer service and job safety requirements. Ability to read floor plans, blueprints, and design documents. Proficiency in low‑voltage cable pulling, field termination, and cable dressing. Experience with MDF and IDF closet layout and cable termination. Skilled in copper and fiber cable testing, troubleshooting, and splicing. Capability to operate DSX 5000/Ottr, program testers, upload results, and produce mass labels. Previous work in data center environments and knowledge of ladder rack & seismic bracing installation. Strong organizational skills for maintaining paperwork and workflow. Work under direction from Operations Manager and senior technicians. Benefits 401(k), Dental, Health, Life, and Vision insurance.
