Design Project Manager

Location: 6095 Parkland Blvd., Mayfield Hts, OH, 44124, United States Employee Type: Full-Time Exempt Overview The Austin Company is a leading design, engineering, and construction firm with a history dating back to 1878. This role supports design and project management activities for engineering and design efforts to meet contract scope, on time and within budget. Role Design Project Manager (DPM) provides overall management of one or more specific engineering & design efforts to ensure the client receives a project designed and engineered within the contract scope. The DPM coordinates with project management and construction leadership to ensure constructability and support of construction operations. The DPM is responsible for the successful delivery of the engineering scope of work on a project, within contract terms, on time, and within budget. On engineering-only projects the DPM functions as the primary leader of the project; on design-build projects the DPM acts as the primary leader of the engineering effort, typically working under a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager. Begins to work independently performing a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard project management techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project. The incumbent must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard project management techniques, procedures, and criteria focusing on scope, schedule, and budget. Assignments have clear objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables. Essential Functions Enters all information for engineering meeting minutes, change notifications, and engineering change orders. Maintains familiarity with the overall budget/profitability, schedule, and quality for the engineering scope of work on assigned projects. Supports project leadership and engineering resources, including communication of scope, deadlines, and requirements. Assists with documenting all changes in engineering scope and communicates cost and time implications to the Director of Engineering and the lead design project manager. Facilitates regular project status meetings to ensure progress and coordination of the project team. Supports proposal efforts as assigned. Assists in defining work packages and schedule/budget development. Supports overall project documentation, including day-to-day reporting and client/internal reporting, and use of project management/document management software as required. Assists with RFI process, submittal process, and change management if assigned. Creates internal and client reports as assigned/required. Attends Project Progress Review meetings. For skill development, the Assistant DPM may be introduced to: developing engineering portions of the project execution plan, coordinating overall engineering across disciplines, reviewing design conditions, providing input to leadership on performance, and leading project estimating and proposal preparation as assigned. Qualifications BA/BS in Architecture, Engineering, or related field with 3–5 years of related experience in multi-discipline project team leadership preferred.
