Transportation Assistant
You will serve as a Transportation Assistant and be responsible for providing support to both civilian and military personnel with permanent change of duty station moves. The purpose of the position is to provide counsel and assistance and assure timely, economical and procedurally correct preparation of documents to authorize and process transportation services. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- Serving as a shipment assistant and authority providing complete counseling service to effect the shipment of household goods, personal effects, mobile homes, boat/trailers, POV's (Privately owned vehicles), Do-It Yourself moves, freight rates, for DHS/DOD military, civilian and their dependents.
- Interviewing applicants individually or in groups to determine the needs and develop the correct combination of entitlements.
- Researching and analyzing documents and regulations to determine pre-shipment, shipment, and post-shipment needs and services.
- Routing and booking shipments in the database.
- Preparing reports and replies to telephonic and written communications regarding shipping information on all inbound and outbound shipments.
- Consolidating, rearranging, modifying and retrieving records stored in database.
