Overall Purpose of the Position: The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the provider and/or nursing staff with all aspects of patient care.

Major Job Responsibilities:

1. Able to process patients for examination by the provider by obtaining vital signs and history. Documents the encounter in the EMR. Assists provider/nursing staff with procedures and treatments as necessary. 40%

2. Gives injections, administers oral medications, and performs limited treatments as indicated by, and under the supervision of the provider.

3. Assists in preparing information for patient appointments; such as labs, hospital reports, referrals and notes. Able to complete office forms and documents. Assists in the maintenance of electronic medical record (EMR). Scans documents as required. 20%

4. Keeps all treatment areas and nurse's stations neat and clean at all times; orders all medical and clerical supplies and keeps the office stocked within designated par levels; cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization as necessary. 20%

5. Answers incoming phone calls and transfers the calls as needed. Takes prescription (RX) messages, identifies and verifies information needed to schedule appointment requests. Assist with follow appointments or referrals. 5%

6. Works to help our patients and family members have a good experience. Takes initiative in problem solving, maintains confidentiality of patient and company information, and interacts with patients, co-workers, and management in a courteous and respectful manner. 5%

7. All other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned. 5%

8. Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on a timely basis, and makes decisions within limits of authority. Adheres to all company policies and procedures. 2.5%

9. Maintains time and attendance standards consistent with company policy. 2.5%

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from a nine-month Medical Assistant course required. CPR/BLS Card required

Skills/Knowledge: Must be able to manage multiple tasks at the same time; possesses strong telephone skills

Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrates effective communication and telephone skills; computer literacy preferred.

Equipment Use: Personal computer, multi-line telephone, fax machine/copier, Medical equipment – i.e. BP cuff, pulse oximetry, EKG machine, glucometer, wheelchair.

Characteristics: Physically fit to perform the duties of the position; Willingly participates as a member of the nursing team; possesses effective organizational skills and maintains a "can-do" attitude.

Environmental Factors: Walking (85%); sitting (15%); lifts 25 lbs. with occasional heavier loads.

Hourly Rate: MA starting @ $23.72 / CA starting @ $19.58; based on experience
