Respiratory Therapist RRT

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides specialized respiratory care primarily in adult critical care and emergency department settings. This role involves advanced airway management, oxygen therapy, ventilator management, and suctioning procedures. The therapist collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment. An active Illinois license, BLS certification, and a minimum of one year of relevant experience are required. Responsibilities Perform airway management including endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, intubation assistance, nasal and oral airway placement and suctioning, and tracheostomy suctioning. Administer oxygen therapy using devices such as bag and mask, ET tube, high flow nasal cannula, T-piece, trach collar, and Venturi masks. Manage ventilators including BiPAP and CPAP, troubleshoot high pressure alarms, and assist in weaning patients from mechanical ventilation. Collect sputum specimens as part of patient care. Utilize Cerner electronic medical record system for charting and documentation. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in a Magnet-designated, Level I trauma acute care hospital. Float within the scope of practice to meet facility needs as required. Participate in teaching and training activities within the hospital setting. Maintain compliance with hospital policies and procedures and adhere to infection control standards. Required Skills & Certifications Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in Illinois. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Minimum of one year experience in adult critical care or emergency department respiratory therapy. Proficiency with airway management devices and suctioning techniques. Experience with oxygen therapy devices and ventilator management including BiPAP and CPAP. Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record system. Preferred Skills & Certifications Experience in teaching hospital or community hospital settings. Experience working in Level I or Level II trauma centers. Additional certifications or training related to respiratory care or critical care. Special Considerations Required to work every other weekend. On-call availability required as needed by the department. Ability to float within the scope of practice to meet facility needs. Parking permit required but provided at no cost. Scrub color: any solid color permitted. Must have an active Illinois license; pending licenses are not accepted. Client may cancel shifts up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay obligation; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts. Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally limited to no more than five days. Scheduling Work schedule options include 3 twelve-hour night shifts (1800-0630) or 4 twelve-hour night shifts per week.
