Vascular Ultrasound Tech (BMG)

Responsibilities Perform ultrasound scans and procedures requiring independent judgment and precision with high frequency ultrasound equipment, focusing on vascular procedures and examinations. Obtain clinical history, communicate with referring physicians and health care personnel, and call in reports as required. Explain procedure to patient and/or family, practice sterile and isolation techniques, assess patient condition, and perform CPR or other emergency procedures as needed. Select appropriate ultrasound transducers, gels, and oils to achieve best resolution and minimize reactions, and utilize digital storage systems. Conduct vascular studies including arterial studies of upper and lower extremities (including digits) with segmental pulse volume recording, Doppler waveform acquisition, pulse grading, and calculation of ankle‑brachial index. Determine need for photoplethysmogram (PPG) testing, acquire PPG tracings and related measurements. Assist physicians during vascular procedures, maintain sterile fields, provide ultrasound guidance, and recover patients post‑procedure, including discharge instructions and follow‑up appointments. Fit patients for compression stockings. Maintain inventory and condition of ultrasound and office supplies/equipment. Schedule patient appointments, verify insurance, obtain prior authorizations, prepare reports, and maintain service records. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, department‑specific education, and employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintain license, certification, and registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other required certifications. Use universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patients and self. Adhere to regulatory agency requirements, survey processes, and compliance. Follow organizational and departmental policies. Be available to work overtime, additional or other shifts and schedules as required. Education and Experience Graduation from an approved school of radiology technology or an approved ultrasound school; registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Certification for ultrasound by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) or obtain within the first six months of employment; certification by the Indiana State Board of Health. Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) credential obtained within 18 months of employment. Knowledge & Skills Analytical skills to evaluate information and records using measurable criteria. High level of communication skills to interact with patients, families, and health professionals. Understanding of oral and written instructions in radiographic and medical terms. Well‑developed interpersonal skills for professional interactions. Proficiency in patient clinical assessment and vascular examination/testing. Ability to analyze, validate, record, and report data; obtain and act on quality assurance data. Attention to detail in patient positioning, equipment operation, and documentation. Verbal and written communication excellence. Effective collaboration with physicians and referring staff. Working Conditions Clinic environment requiring physical exertion.
