Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM, 12-Hour Shifts) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 23-bed Medical-Surgical Observation unit, managing a diverse patient population including cardiac, neurological, post-surgical, GI/urology, and detox/CIWA cases
• Perform NIHSS and neurological assessments, dysphagia screenings, and cardiac cath recovery (femoral and TR bands)
• Initiate and titrate drips including Heparin and Insulin; manage indwelling drains, straight cath/Foley care, and NG tube insertion
• Administer and document blood products; apply strong critical thinking and assessment skills throughout all patient interactions
• Float within skillset to a secondary campus location with a minimum of 2 hours notice; mid-shift float within the same campus may also be required
• May precept nursing students and new hires as this is a teaching facility

Required Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse compact license
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• NIHSS certification
• Minimum of two years of recent, strong Medical-Surgical experience
• At least one prior travel nursing assignment
• Recent Epic EMR experience required

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with post-surgical care including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and kidney stone procedures
• Familiarity with cardiac monitoring, chest pain protocols, and stress test/post-cath recovery without intervention
• Experience managing CVA/TIA, AKI, cellulitis, syncope, and respiratory presentations
