Mobile Phlebotomist

The primary role of Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, conduct training, and make recommendations for workflow improvements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and perform decontamination.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection, such as urine or fecal, in a courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures specific to the protocol necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of experience in a related field.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Portland, Maine.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
