Medical Assistant-Registered (Chelan Clinic)

JOB SUMMARY The Interim Medical Assistant-Registered (MA-R) is a position intended for external applicants that supports the healthcare team in delivering patient care. This position may assist with both direct and indirect patient care activities. The MA-R's scope of practice is determined by their training, demonstrated competency, and endorsement by a designated healthcare practitioner, in accordance with Washington State regulations. The MA-R performs delegated tasks as authorized through practitioner endorsement and provides both clinical and clerical support to promote efficient patient flow. Essential Functions: These functions are fundamental to the role and must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation. Competency Per Endorsement 1. Fundamental Procedures a. Wrapping items for autoclaving b. Procedures for sterilizing equipment and instruments c. Disposing of biohazardous materials d. Practicing standard precautions 2. Clinical Procedures a. Preparing for and assisting in sterile procedures. b. Taking vital signs. c. Preparing patients for examination. d. Observing and reporting patients' signs or symptoms. 3. Specimen Collection a. Obtaining specimens for microbiological testing. b. Instructing patients in proper technique to collect urine and fecal specimens. c. Finger and/or heel stick to collect a blood specimen d. Tests waived under the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments program. 4. Patient Care a. Telephone and in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge. b. Maintaining medical and immunization records. Obtaining vital signs, obtaining and recording patient history. c. Preparing and maintaining examination and treatment areas. Sorting, storing, and restocking exam/procedure rooms with supplies. d. Preparing patients for and assisting with routine and specialty examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries utilizing no more than local anesthetic. e. Assists with providing organized patient flow. f. Works closely with provider and nursing staff to help facilitate rapid response to patient needs. g. Screening and following up on test results as directed by a healthcare practitioner. h. Prepares patient referrals. i. Assists provider/nursing staff with patient tracking systems. Enters patients into appropriate recall plans. j. Administration of eye drops, topical ointments, and vaccines including combination or multidose vaccines. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: These functions are fundamental to the role and must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation. 1. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor 2. Start shift on time and meet attendance standards per the FTE assigned in HRIS system. 3. Follow safety policies and maintain a clean, safe work environment. 4. Demonstrate sound work ethics, flexibility, and cultural sensitivity 5. Uphold CVCH's mission and core values in all interactions. 6. Comply with CVCH policies, Joint Commission standards, and HIPPA regulations. Non-Essential Functions: These are tasks that are included in the role but are not critical. They may be reassigned or modified without fundamentally changing the job. • Run ad hoc reports as requested. • Participate in internal committees or special projects. • Contribute to internal communications or newsletters. MA-R Additional Functions: • Function independently without direct supervision. • Cross-trained to support MA staff across all departments and comfortable working at multiple sites • Willing to commute day of, to Chelan and all other clinical sites. • Maintains a strong working knowledge of all departments • Serves as a positive role model and influencer among peers Qualifications: Education: • High School Diploma or equivalent. Certification/Licensure: • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required or must be able to obtain within first 90 days of employment. • Must be eligible for Medical Assistant-Registered Licensure. Experience: • Entry level position. Language Skills: • English and Spanish fluency preferred • English fluency required Skills & Competencies needed: • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Analytical and problem-solving abilities • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information Work Environment & Physical Demands: • Typical office environment • Sit, stand, walk, often • Reach occasionally • Kneel or crouch minimally • May need to lift up to 10 pounds • Visual acuity for close and distance work Exposure to Hazards: • Moderate noise • Standard working conditions Blood/Fluid Exposure Risk: • Category I - Tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required Age Specific Competency 1. Neonatal (Birth - 30 days)2. Infant (30 days to less than 1 year)3. Each year after that employee will accrue 8 hours of PTO each year, on their anniversary date, until they reach a maximum of 208 hours at 10+ years. Paid Leave may be used immediately for sick leave and after 3 months employment for vacation. Maximum accrual cap of 320 hours; hours in excess of 320 hours will automatically transfer into the employees EIB. Extended Illness Bank (EIB) Allows for maximum accrual of 200 hours PTO hours in excess of 320 will transfer into EIB. Employees are eligible to use EIB hours after at least 3 consecutive scheduled working days of PTO (max 24 hours) which have been used for a personal illness and/or a qualifying event under FMLA or the WA Family Care Act. Holidays 88 hours related to: • New Year's Day • Memorial Day • 4th of July • Labor Day • Thanksgiving Day • Day after Thanksgiving • Christmas Eve • Christmas Day • 3 Diversity Days Holidays are calculated as 8-hour days if full time, 1.0 FTE, and paid based on the calendar year (January 1 through December 31). Holiday hours will be added to the employee's timecard automatically. If an employee is part-time, as documented in our HR/Payroll system, Holiday hours will be pro-rated. If an employee starts after the calendar year has begun, holiday hours will be prorated based on remaining holidays in the calendar year and diversity days will be prorated as outlined below: • Jan 1- April 30: 3 diversity days (24 hours if 1.0 FTE)• May 1 - August 31: 2 diversity days (16 hours if 1.0 FTE)• Sept 1 - Dec 31: 1 diversity day (8 hours if 1.0 FTE) Please refer to the Paid Leave policy for additional details. 403(b) Retirement Plan Lincoln Financial 150% CVCH match up to 3% of the employee's contribution Immediately. Employees must agree to work for a period of two (2) years from the date of receipt of tuition reimbursement and obtain satisfactory completion of approved courses or Challenge Exams.
