Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening/Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS NIHSS PALS TNCC Must-Have: Pediatric experience Level 1 or 2 trauma experience Cerner experience preferred Description: This position involves working in a combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit. The unit is an Adult and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center. It operates with 38 beds and 5 trauma bays. The average patient volume is approximately 140-180 patients per day. Staffing involves a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 in the Emergency Room and 1:6 in Urgent Care. Common patient presentations include chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, and headache. Nurses are expected to triage patients coming in from ambulances. There are no separate areas for ER holds; they are intermixed within the department. Dedicated psychiatric rooms are available, and security personnel are present 24/7. The nursing staff receives assistance from paramedics and techs with patient care tasks. Respiratory therapy is available on call, and RNs are expected to troubleshoot RT equipment when necessary. RNs are responsible for drawing labs, including blood cultures if needed. Shifts are scheduled with no self-scheduling; weekend and holiday shifts are mandatory every other period. All staff members are required to wear solid-colored, professional scrubs. The unit provides hands-on training with an RN preceptor for unit-specific orientation.
