Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatry - Ohana

Position Summary Under the leadership of the Ohana Medical Director and the Assistant Director of Outpatient Services, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing care to child & adolescent patients and their families with acute and chronic psychiatric disorders. Duties include evaluation and treatment of patients, performing initial and follow-up psychiatric assessments, initiating, renewing, and changing medications, ordering routine laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests and providing initial interpretations, initiating or expediting requests for consultations, special tests or studies, evaluating and initiating therapy for acute and chronic mental health problems, providing education and training (individual or groups) to the patient, family & community as necessary, and communicating clinical findings to members of the clinical team. The role may also involve duties in the Ohana IOP/PHP program, Residential Treatment Program, Crisis Stabilization Unit and Emergency Department. Responsibilities also include documenting all findings and results in the medical record. In addition to clinical care, the nurse practitioner will collaborate on program development with leadership and management. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is expected to maintain a productivity expectation of at least 25 patient‑facing billable hours per week. Key attributes include excellence in patient care through observation, assessment, nursing judgment, communication skills, and interpersonal relations. Must demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, decision‑making ability and the capacity to work independently. Experience Completion of postgraduate nurse practitioner fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry nursing strongly preferred. Minimum of two years working in child and adolescent psychiatric clinical setting required. Experience with dual‑diagnosis patients preferred. Demonstrated thorough and complete understanding of psychotropic medications, side effects, and drug/drug interactions. Education Master’s Degree in Nursing required – Exception Nurse Practitioners qualified or certified as an NP in California or any other state prior to January 1, 2008. Licensure / Certifications Currently licensed in California as an NP and certified as a nurse practitioner by a recognized national certifying body with standards for practice in California. State of California RN and Nurse Practitioner license with specialty certification in psychiatry. Certification from either ANCC or AANP as a nurse practitioner, Furnishing license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. Workplace Violence Prevention (AVADE) certification must be obtained within the first 6 months of hire. Will complete mandatory 5150 training by Monterey County to obtain 5150 certification and obtain 5150 Professional staff authorization yearly.
