The Hospital:
CareVet of Ancient City (formerly Animal Wellness Center) is a full-service small animal practice serving the Saint Augustine community since 2007. We provide comprehensive care including wellness services, dentistry, surgery, in-house diagnostics, digital imaging, and daytime urgent care. Our focus on individualized wellness plans and client education allows us to build lasting relationships with both pets and their families.


The Position:
The Hospital Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for partnering with the Hospital Medical Director to oversee the daily operations of the hospital while actively supporting patient care and client service. As a working manager, this role balances leadership responsibilities with participation in the day-to-day clinical workflow, ensuring exceptional medical care, outstanding client experience, and a positive, collaborative team culture. The Hospital Manager provides operational leadership for the administrative functions of the practice. This includes supporting patient flow, overseeing staffing and scheduling, coaching and developing Team Members, managing financial and operational performance, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring the hospital operates efficiently and safely. This leader fosters a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and gold-standard patient and client care while helping the hospital achieve both clinical and business goals.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Lead by example through active participation in daily hospital operations
• Manage the financial reporting of the business, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, budgeting, income reconciliation, credit and banking
• Inventory management including process flow and control
• Monitor workflow and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and patient care
• Responsible for managing the interviewing, hiring, and training of needed staff members
• Oversee equipment and facility maintenance - coordinating repairs as needed
• Create and manage schedules that support patient care and appropriate staffing levels
• Champion the hospital's mission, values, and commitment to exceptional care
• Support community outreach initiatives, client education, fundraising events, and local partnerships
• Restraining and assisting the doctor or technician during exams, treatments, and anesthesia procedures
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and stand on feet for long periods

Skills / Qualifications:

• Previous leadership experience in a veterinary hospital required
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Veterinary Technology, related field or relevant education and work experience preferred
• Certified Veterinary Practice Manager is desirable but not required
• Customer service attitude
• Excellent organizational skills including the ability to multitask and prioritize
• Professional and positive attitude that is people oriented with good interpersonal skills
• People oriented and has skills to support a team-based culture
• Strong verbal, written, and communication skills
