OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Suffolk Transportation is seeking an IT Specialist to deliver hands-on, day-to-day desktop and end-user support across office and operational environments. As the front line of the IT team, this role is the first point of contact for employee technology issues — resolving incidents, supporting physical and virtual desktops, and providing excellent customer service while following established procedures and escalating complex issues as needed.RESPONSIBILITIES
End-User & Desktop Support- Provide tier 1 and tier 2 support for desktops, laptops, printers, peripherals, and business applications.
- Support Windows OS, Microsoft 365, Outlook/Exchange, Teams, and VoIP phones.
- Image, deploy, and refresh end-user hardware across multiple sites following established build standards.
- Onboard and offboard users, including account provisioning, hardware setup, and end-user training.
- Perform routine Active Directory, Intune (Mobile Device Manager), and SharePoint administration tasks.
- Manage assigned tickets, document resolutions, and contribute to knowledge base articles.
- Provide first-line support for AWS WorkSpaces and AWS AppStream 2.0 users.
- Troubleshoot VDI session, connectivity, and basic performance and profile issues.
- Process user assignments and access requests under established procedures.
- Monitor endpoint protection, MFA, and email security alerts on end-user devices.
- Respond to and escalate security alerts and suspicious activity per established procedures.
- Apply endpoint patches and complete assigned remediation tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a minimum of 1–3 years of IT Support experience with a focus on desktop/end-user support. Working knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft 365, and Active Directory / Entra ID fundamentals. Operating system and application-level support experience for desktops/laptops and mobile devices, including current versions of Microsoft Windows, Android, and iOS. Exposure to or interest in virtual desktop environments (AWS WorkSpaces / AppStream 2.0 a plus). Strong customer service, communication, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to follow documented procedures and escalate appropriately. Must have a valid New York State Driver’s License and automobile, ability to drive to company sites in Suffolk County (authorized travel among sites and the office will be reimbursed/paid for by the company). Must be capable of lifting, moving, and mounting equipment weighing approximately 50 lbs. A willingness to work at our office in Bay Shore. This is not a remote position and requires your presence. Proper Business attire: We are a professional IT group interfacing with managers daily. Smart business casual attire is required (no jeans, no sneakers, no T-shirts). CompTIA A+ Certification (or equivalent) would be preferred. A bachelor’s degree in information technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or engineering is preferred. - Familiarity with endpoint management tools (Intune, SCCM, or equivalent).
- Exposure to basic PowerShell or scripting.
- Experience supporting users across multiple physical sites.
