SUMMARY
The middle school principal is responsible for the operations of the middle school. This responsibility includes the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the middle school. The principal is ultimately responsible for the supervision of all staff assigned to the middle school, the instructional program, professional development of staff and the welfare of students and staff.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The middle school principal reports to the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assigns, supervises and evaluates the middle school instructional staff.
  2. Resolves staff problems and provides support to teachers.
  3. Provides general supervision of students. Supervises extra-curricular activities.
  4. Evaluates the performance of teachers, program and support staff.
  5. Provides in-service training for staff.
  6. Prepares and administers the school budget.
  7. Maintains a positive public relations and marketing program for the middle school.
  8. Maintains positive relationships with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside agencies.
  9. Assumes responsibility for implementing district's curriculum.
  10. Directs the school improvement process for the middle school.
  11. Prepares and submits, in a timely manner, reports as directed.
  12. Assumes responsibility for the implementation of Board policies and regulations as they pertain to the middle school.
  13. Oversees the internal accounting of funds at the middle school.
  14. Develops the master schedule.
  15. Plans and implements, as necessary, the emergency preparedness of the middle school.
  16. Follows all Board policies, state laws and regulations.
  17. Provides support to other positions as required.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supervises the Assistant Principal and other employees assigned to the middle schools. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the middle school. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements and the district's policies and procedures.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. Three (3) to five (5) years teaching experience.
  2. Three (3) to five (5) years experience as an assistant secondary principal.
  3. Masters in Education Leadership/School Administration or related area.
  4. Experience working with at risk students.
  5. Experience working with a diverse population.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  1. Valid Teaching Certificate.
  2. Must be eligible for a secondary administrator's certificate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Knowledge, skill and ability in the use of e-mail, internet, power point, spreadsheets and word processing.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision.

The demands of extended work days (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.) requires a high level of physical endurance. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
