Position Summary:

The GU employee's main tasks in closing are to inspect glass containers that are delivered to the closing area prior to closing. A basic visual inspection looking for stagger, breakage, bad cuts, etc. to ensure we deliver a quality product through the closing process ready to ship to our customers. This includes the use of manual, automatic tooling to prep, wrap, and band the glass in the containers. Trucking is also part of this process. At times there will be other tasks or special projects that may be required for the GU to assist in completing.

Primary Duties:

• Services packing lines by preparing all types of containers with the necessary materials, tools, and equipment required to close a packed container of glass properly and safely.
• Transports containers to closing areas to be closed in accordance with the Customers specifications, Fuyao work instructions, proper materials, and tooling.
• When breakage happens within the container, either before closing or after the closing process the GU will perform the rework process to remove broken glass, eliminate rat holes between lites, or fix side stagger. Once the task is complete the container will go back through the closing process to prepare for shipping.
• Transfers glass from one container to another one lite at a time.
• Operates all industrial trucks (fork trucks) to transport containers to and from lines, closing area, rework area, staging area, and shipping.
• Loads containers on launching devices, robot turn tables, etc.
• Transport empty racks to and from the parking lot as needed for production.
• Places and assists in positioning empties on turnaround, shuttles, with minimal downtime. Assists glass processing occupation as necessary. Some examples may be removing breakage and helping with the stack of glass.
• Cuts and packages material as needs when prepping or closing containers.
• Cuts and fabricates parts for replacement of damaged or improperly built containers.
• Cut paper and cardboard as needed for the closing process.
• Operates the automatic banding machine. Read chart and cuts banding to the correct length based on the banding chart in closing.
• Empties cullet and waste hoppers.
• Records container audit information and other data as required to meet out-going quality.
• Assembly of steel racks.
• Assists GMMS in making emergency and/or routine repairs and will perform tasks which do not require GMM skills.
• Maintains good housekeeping in designated areas.
• Observes and follows all environmental policies. Performs the job in a manner that minimizes impart to the environment.
• Observes all safety and housekeeping responsibilities.
• Communicates, cooperates and coordinates with other personnel.
• Assists as necessary in emergencies and performs other related duties as directed by Supervisors, and Engineers.

Requirements:

• Employee must be able to lift 40 pounds, as needed to perform their required tasks.
• Must work well with others in a teamwork environment to complete the goals set forward by the management team.
