WebSphere Administrator

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced WebSphere Administrator to support production maintenance and phased rollout implementations for enterprise HR, Benefits, and Timekeeping systems.

The WebSphere Administrator will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, and administration of middleware infrastructure, including IBM WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Liberty, IBM MQ, and Cognos. The role supports critical enterprise applications and requires collaboration with multiple technical teams, independent decision-making, and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and administer middleware infrastructure.
• Support IBM WebSphere Application Server Traditional (tWAS) and WebSphere Liberty environments.
• Manage middleware infrastructure supporting critical enterprise applications.
• Administer WebSphere Liberty server configurations, including:
  • server.xml
  • bootstrap.properties
  • jvm.options
• Perform middleware application upgrades, patch installations, and configuration changes.
• Support IBM MQ, IBM Server, WebSphere Message Broker, Oracle WebLogic, and Cognos environments as needed.
• Use Git for source control and configuration management.
• Develop and maintain Ansible automation for middleware administration, configuration management, and application deployments.
• Support Jenkins, CloudBees, or similar CI/CD tools.
• Apply Configuration as Code and DevOps methodologies where appropriate.
• Analyze and troubleshoot Java application and middleware errors.
• Perform detailed root cause analysis of technical issues.
• Work with relational databases and execute SQL queries as needed.
• Provide production support for large-scale enterprise environments.
• Participate in 24x7 support activities, including nights and weekends when required.
• Plan and manage tasks according to project schedules and deadlines.
• Provide regular status updates and communicate risks or issues to stakeholders.
• Document technical symptoms, troubleshooting steps, solutions, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and technical administrators.
• Quickly learn new applications, technologies, and operational processes.
• Work independently to investigate issues and identify appropriate solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Middleware Administration.
• Strong experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server Traditional (tWAS).
• Experience administering WebSphere Liberty on Linux or UNIX-based platforms.
• Experience working in enterprise-wide, large-scale IT environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience performing root cause analysis and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
• Good understanding of relational database concepts and SQL.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness to support 24x7 operations, including nights and weekends as needed.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience managing WebSphere Liberty configurations, including server.xml, bootstrap.properties, and jvm.options.
• Git for source control and configuration management.
• Ansible for middleware administration, automation, configuration management, and application deployments.
• Jenkins, CloudBees, or similar CI/CD tools.
• Configuration as Code and DevOps methodologies.
• Administration of associated middleware products, including:
  • IBM MQ
  • IBM Server
  • IBM WebSphere Message Broker
  • Oracle WebLogic
  • Cognos
• Experience with middleware application upgrades and patch installations.
• Understanding and debugging Java errors.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure and critical applications.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, plus four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to data center engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, or complex IT infrastructure engineering.
2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, plus eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to data center engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, or complex IT infrastructure engineering.
3. Equivalent combination of education and experience meeting the requirements of the above qualifications.
