Northside Gwinnett Acute Care Occupational Therapist
Innovative Therapy Concepts is a Physical Therapist owned and operated Therapy management organization that was founded by Joe Sapp, PT in 2006. We began our partnership with Northside Gwinnett in 2013 to provide therapy services throughout the Northside Gwinnett system. ITC is searching for an Occupational Therapist with a passion for acute care, especially in neuro or ortho trauma. Experience in acute critical care areas of the hospital is beneficial but not necessary. You will encounter many types of diagnoses as you spend time mobilizing patients in the ICU, progressive care units with multiple lines and patients in very critical medical states. Therapists should be able to clinically problem solve complex orthopedic injuries with respect to mobilization, discharge needs and progression from a therapeutic mindset. Other important qualities we are searching for are teamwork, excellent communication, ability to multi-task and flexibility.

We Are Seeking:

Responsibilities:
- Appropriately assesses and examines patients with varying diagnoses according to OT scope of practice.
- Treats patient within the OT scope of practice.
- Teaches patients how to use and care for orthotic, prosthetic devices, and other assistive apparati.
- Administers and interprets standardized assessments/tests.
- Fabricates splints.
- Recommends appropriate adaptive equipment for activities of daily living.
- Coordinates and leads groups.
- Maintains gym area and equipment.
- Provides education to patients, caregivers and associates regarding OT interventions, safety, community resources and outcomes.
- Attends and participates in patient care planning meetings as assigned.
- Supervises treatment and documentation of the occupational therapy assistant.
- Communicates and collaborates with all customers and interdisciplinary team members.
- Contributes to profits and revenues including marketing and productivity.
- Participates in budget development and cost saving efforts.
- Serves on performance improvement teams.
- Participates in community services.
- Delegates treatment tasks to COTAs and aides in accordance with OT state practice guidelines.
- Provides care and documentation in accordance with regulatory, legal, and reimbursement guidelines.
- Accepts responsibility for own growth and development through inservices, required programs and continuing education.
- Complies with all established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains CPR certification.

Technical Competencies:
- Use of intranet, Microsoft Outlook, Current EMR, MD Portal, Lawson, NetLearning, Microsoft Office Products, therapy related equipment, software and patient education resources.
- Daily operation and basic maintenance of office equipment and machines such as phone system, fax, copier, etc.

- Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, machines and tools. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to forty (40) pounds of force occasionally and/or up to twenty (20) pounds frequently. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 100 to 150 pounds with assistance. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for physically active work.
- Mental Requirements: Knowledge of all phases of the patient care process. Must demonstrate clinical competency in the practice of patient care and treatment, as well as qualities of leadership and sound judgment. Skilled in the art of human relations, problem solving, interviewing, counseling and discipline and conflict resolution; high level of stress. Capable of facilitating learning of others and able to express oneself effectively before groups. Demonstrates good role model qualities; ability to effectively interpret, implement and support approved hospital policies, regulations, philosophy and objectives. Requires flexibility, creativity and ability to solve problems. Is self-directed in maintaining and improving own competence in clinical skills as well as cognitive aspects of practice, theory and current research.
- Environmental Demands: Physical surroundings are pleasant and comfortable with minimal exposure to injury or other hazards.
- Interpersonal Communication : Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants.
- Language Ability : Requires the ability to read a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to write with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. - Manual Dexterity: Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. The worker needs to relate to people in situations involving more than giving or receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency.
