Director of Estimating (HVAC/Plumbing)

Snapshot / Role Overview
We're seeking a Director of Estimating (HVAC/Plumbing) in Honolulu, Hawaii to lead estimating operations and drive project wins for commercial mechanical construction.

Impact

• Improve bid success rates through accurate, competitive proposals

• Strengthen relationships with subcontractors and material suppliers

• Elevate estimating standards and mentor the next generation of estimators

• Support seamless project handoffs from preconstruction to operations

Responsibilities

• Lead all estimating activities for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects

• Develop detailed scopes of work and mechanical system takeoffs

• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor proposals

• Prepare comprehensive budgets, cost estimates, and bid packages

• Attend pre-bid meetings and analyze project requirements

• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers

• Mentor and develop estimating staff on best practices and techniques

• Support project turnover and operational handoff processes

• Collaborate with project managers and operations teams on cost management

Requirements
Must-Haves

• 10+ years of mechanical estimating experience with at least 5 years in HVAC/plumbing

• Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems and modern estimating techniques

• Proficiency with estimating software such as QuoteSoft, Accubid, or similar

• Strong understanding of local building codes and project specifications

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Nice-to-Haves

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field

• MedGas certification

• Experience mentoring junior estimators

• Familiarity with the Honolulu construction market
