Overview:

A well-established manufacturing company in Canandaigua is seeking a hands-on Extrusion Team Lead to support 3rd shift production operations.

This is not a desk-based supervisor role. The right person will be actively working on the production floor, staying hands-on with equipment, supporting operators, monitoring production, completing quality checks, and helping keep the shift running safely and efficiently.

This is a strong fit for someone with extrusion, plastics manufacturing, setup, lead operator, trainer, or hands-on production leadership experience.

Responsibilities:

Lead and support 3rd shift production operations in a hands-on capacity.

Operate, set up, monitor, and support extrusion production equipment.

Serve as a go-to resource for operators during the shift.

Monitor production orders to ensure customer specifications are being met.

Complete first-piece checks, machine activity reports, QC sheets, and related production documentation.

Assign tasks to shift personnel and help keep production moving efficiently.

Train new employees and newly promoted employees on jobs, equipment, and procedures.

Help coach and develop operators as they grow within the department.

Monitor material levels and refill materials as needed.

Pack, label, inspect, and move finished product as needed.

Use measuring tools and quality checks to confirm product meets specifications.

Complete inventory transactions and production paperwork accurately.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

Enforce company safety, quality, and conduct standards.

Work closely with the team to troubleshoot issues, improve flow, and maximize efficiency.

Ideal Background:

Extrusion experience is strongly preferred.

Plastic extrusion, tubing extrusion, profile extrusion, film extrusion, blow molding, injection molding, or similar plastics manufacturing experience is helpful.

Prior experience as a Lead Operator, Team Lead, Group Lead, Cell Lead, Trainer, Setup Technician, or hands-on Production Lead is preferred.

Strong mechanical ability and comfort working around production equipment.

Experience with machine setup, changeovers, troubleshooting, quality checks, and production documentation.

Ability to work on your feet for 8–12 hours per shift.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.

Strong communication skills and the ability to train, coach, and support team members.

Positive attitude, accountability, attention to detail, and willingness to jump in wherever needed.

Helpful Equipment Experience:

Extruders | Pullers | Cutters | Automatic coilers | Chillers | Conveyors | Grinders | HMI interfaces / computers | Forklifts and pallet jacks | Calipers, micrometers, gages, and scales |
Ink jet printers | Tubing cutters and hand tools

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

1+ year of extrusion, plastics, machine operation, setup, or related manufacturing experience preferred.

Prior leadership, training, or team lead experience preferred.

Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety rules, production orders, and quality documentation.

Ability to use basic math, measurements, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Must be comfortable working overnight hours.

Must be comfortable working in a hands-on production role with limited office work.

Schedule:

Current schedule is a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour overnight shifts:

2 x 8-hour shifts: 10:45 PM – 7:15 AM
2 x 12-hour shifts: 10:45 PM – 11:15 AM

The work week starts Monday night and ends Friday morning. There may be some flexibility on which days extend to 11:15 AM. Historically, this shift has operated as 5 x 8-hour shifts and may return to that schedule depending on business needs.
