TERM INSTRUCTOR - PSYCHOLOGY POOL

Position Summary The purpose of this position is to teach assigned courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need. Courses may include online courses and/or dual-credit/early college classes. Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/outline to ensure course content and objectives are met. Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students. Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds. Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success. Knowledge of a learning community or learning college. Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline. Minimum Qualifications Successful college teaching experience. Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline. Preferred Qualifications Experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources, and other appropriate media in instruction. Experience teaching college level online courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas). Job Duties Teach five (5) courses per regular semester, which may include online courses and/or dual-credit/early college classes. Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need. Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work. Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning. Hold scheduled, posted virtual or physical office hours of at least one hour daily and be available for and encourage conferences with students to clarify their work and identify improvement opportunities. Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures. Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials. Assist in academic advising of declared majors. Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction. Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes. Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to implement systemic improvement and assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and higher education requirements. Participate in the self‑evaluation process and establish goals and objectives, which may include personal and professional development plans in consultation with the Department Chair. Maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development and engagement activities. Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Accept special assignments occasionally. Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings. Participate in activities required to maintain program and College accreditation standards. Meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar.
