The Departments of Family and Community Medicine, Radiology, and Radiation Oncology are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Credentialing Specialist to provide comprehensive credentialing, compliance, and administrative support for physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals. This position plays a critical role in ensuring clinicians maintain the credentials, licenses, privileges, and regulatory requirements necessary to support the School of Medicine's mission of excellence in patient care, education, research, and engagement.

The Credentialing Specialist serves as the primary resource for credentialing and privileging activities, collaborating with department leadership, medical staff offices, healthcare organizations, and external agencies to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant credentialing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and oversee the initial credentialing, privileging, and recredentialing processes for physicians, advanced practice providers, and other clinical providers.
• Maintain credentialing records and files for medical staff members, advanced practice professionals, and affiliated providers in accordance with institutional, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
• Prepare, review, and submit credentialing applications and supporting documentation to healthcare systems, medical staff offices, regulatory agencies, and payer organizations to ensure timely approvals and compliance.
• Coordinate provider credentialing activities with MU Health Care, University Physicians, the VA, Mercy, and other affiliated healthcare organizations.
• Monitor provider licensure, certifications, registrations, privileges, prescribing authorities, and other required credentials to ensure ongoing compliance and timely renewals.
• Create, maintain, and track Collaborative Practice Agreements and other required provider documentation.
• Manage and track Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) reporting activities.
• Utilize Medical Staff Office systems and other designated databases to maintain credentialing data, generate provider rosters, compliance reports, and operational metrics.
• Prepare and maintain reports related to credentialing, privileging, and provider compliance.
• Monitor regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements and assist with maintaining departmental compliance standards.
• Safeguard the confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity of all credentialing information, provider records, and verification processes.
• Serve as a key point of contact for providers, department leadership, Medical Staff Offices, healthcare organizations, and external agencies, ensuring effective communication throughout the credentialing process.
• Identify and resolve credentialing-related issues and escalate concerns to appropriate leadership as needed.
• Support departmental operations through additional duties and special projects as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Impact of the Position

This position is essential to maintaining clinician compliance, facilitating timely onboarding and recredentialing, supporting patient care operations, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards. The Credentialing Specialist helps mitigate compliance risk, prevents lapses in clinical privileges and licenses, and supports uninterrupted clinical services across multiple departments and healthcare organizations.

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.

Two (2) years of experience with graduate medical education, medical staff credentialing, HR, provider enrollment, or work that involves confirming work history, education, training, background, and/or reference checks, or similar experience.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $22.00 - $34.74 hourly
