Administrative Specialist I (S)

The primary purpose of this position is to verify and maintain criminal history data for all LiveScan fingerprint submissions that are electronically added to the Computerized Criminal history File (CCH). Modifications will be manually entered into CCH and SAFIS. State and Federal records are reviewed and compared, records are verified as belonging to North Carolina, and we take ownership of the records. Final dispositions are also researched for the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The CCH/NICS Administrative Specialist I position is located within the Criminal Information and Identification Section (CIIS) of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Update NC Computerized Criminal History (CCH) records and ensure the NC criminal history has been linked to the FBI NCIC (National Criminal Information System).
  • Modify records based on contributor modification requests forms from arresting agencies and the Department of Corrections.
  • Receive requests from FBI NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) for disposition information and update CCH records on individuals trying to purchase a firearm.
  • Conduct comprehensive search and comparison for any Computerized Criminal History (CCH) for Restoration of Firearms Rights and Name Change orders granted by the NC courts.
  • Utilize the North Carolina Applicant Tracking Systems (NCATS) to cross reference receipts.
  • Receive and manually enter Adjudicated Juvenile records into SAFIS.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Obtaining Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Network certification within six months of hire as required for this position.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to security requirements for accessing SBI applications to which the person in this position must have access.
  • Weekly work schedule: Monday- Friday 8am to 5pm with a 1-hour break.

Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679

Salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations for the advertised position.

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management also prefers:

  • Demonstrated skill in handling confidential information in a business setting.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing documents/files for accuracy and appropriate documentation in a business setting.
  • Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft computer applications, such as Word, Excel and Outlook in a business setting.
  • Ability to obtain a thorough working knowledge of the Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Network and the North Carolina Applicant Tracking System (NCATS).

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with Benefits.

Selected candidates will undergo and must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation which includes: pre-employment polygraph examination; credit and arrest checks; interviews with associates, personal and business references; verification interviews of employers; verification of education achievement; medical examination; urinalysis drug screening; submission of fingerprints.

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two years of related administrative experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
