Associate Distribution Engineer

Location: Carmel, IN 46032

Duration: 6 Months

Pay Rate: $30.00/hr on W2

Job Overview

We are seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to support electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (4kV through 138kV) under the supervision of a technical lead. You will manage programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports, blending office-based engineering design with on-site field visits.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Construction Work Packages: Develop work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems (4kV to 138kV) tied to inspection, maintenance, and system upgrades.
Engineering Calculations: Perform structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sags/tensions, and voltage drop/flicker analyses.
Permitting & Support: Develop permitting documents for various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and provide construction support, including post-construction reviews.
Outage Mitigation: Conduct root-cause analyses of outages using core engineering principles.
Field Inspections: Travel to sites as needed to perform physical inspections (personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursed at IRS rates).

Required Qualifications

Education: 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) from an ABET-accredited institution.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and strong written/verbal communication skills.
Work Environment: Willingness to balance office design work with occasional outdoor field inspections. Valid personal vehicle required for site travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with distribution design tools (e.g., BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc).
Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
Familiarity with NESC and industry design standards.
