Environmental Protection Specialist

Open: July 15, 2026 — Closes: July 24, 2026 Summary This position is located in Padre Island National Seashore, in the Division of Science and Resource Management. Major Duties The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of complex and diverse assignments within one or more of the following general areas: rulemaking and regulation, compliance and enforcement, environmental considerations and documentation, and/or program administration and oversight. The incumbent is responsible for managing compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other federal environmental legislation and determines the compliance pathway for a wide variety of planning efforts and projects, including categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements, as well as the scope, framework, format, and content of major planning efforts. This includes determining management objectives and impact topics; performing impact analyses; and identifying needed resource data and coordinating with appropriate park staff to document needs. The incumbent manages the production of NEPA documents and functions as the overall compliance coordinator, managing all aspects of the compliance process for the park. The incumbent participates in formulating recommendations to the responsible management officials on the use, management, and development of park resources, and is responsible for the preparation and/or review of plans, reports, position papers, policy statements and memorandums, and responsibilities.
