Position Purpose
The Dairy Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Dairy Department to ensure exceptional customer service, product quality, inventory accuracy, and execution of merchandising standards. This position leads department associates, maintains proper product rotation and freshness, and supports achievement of sales, profitability, and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Supervise daily Dairy Department activities and workflow.
  • Ensure dairy products are properly stocked, rotated, faced, and merchandised.
  • Maintain department presentation standards that enhance the customer shopping experience.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to maintain in-stock conditions.
  • Ensure pricing, signage, and promotional displays are accurate and current.
  • Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and equipment functionality.
Customer Service
  • Provide outstanding customer service and promote a positive shopping experience.
  • Assist customers with product selection and answer questions regarding dairy products.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Promote department products, seasonal items, and company programs.
  • Foster customer loyalty through product knowledge and service excellence.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Train, coach, and support department associates.
  • Provide daily direction to ensure productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with scheduling and workload distribution.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and safety.
  • Reinforce company policies, procedures, and service standards.
Food Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Monitor proper storage temperatures and product handling procedures.
  • Ensure all products are rotated according to freshness standards.
  • Conduct routine quality inspections and remove out-of-code merchandise.
  • Support successful completion of company audits and inspections.
Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving department sales, labor, gross profit, and shrink goals.
  • Monitor inventory levels to reduce out-of-stocks and excess inventory.
  • Support shrink reduction initiatives through proper rotation and inventory management.
  • Maintain accurate inventory practices and department records.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sales and operational performance.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous grocery, dairy, or retail experience required.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, merchandising, and food safety practices.
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated coolers and varying temperature conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate pallet jacks, carts, ladders, and other department equipment.
Work Environment
  • Retail grocery Dairy Department environment.
  • Frequent exposure to refrigerated storage areas and cold temperatures.
  • Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

  • Product freshness, quality, and presentation standards.
