Refuge Information Technician

Job Summary Calista Corporation Temporary. The Refuge Information Technician (RIT) will act as a liaison between the Refuge and one or more villages throughout the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta region and manage communication and collaboration between the Refuge and Alaska Native stakeholders. Essential Functions Meet with Alaska Native residents and tribal leaders to learn concerns, questions, positions regarding Refuge programs, community values, traditional subsistence uses, and historical information. Communicate concerns, interests, and traditional uses to the Refuge Manager to calibrate cooperative management programs. Plan and facilitate meetings between residents and Refuge officials, coordinate logistics for biological projects. Communicate with Refuge officials about traditional uses, stakeholder perspectives, permitting, policies, and other issues impacting Alaska Native stakeholders. Relate program ideas and plans to Calista and other stakeholders. Develop and implement programs and processes to ensure information is collected and shared. Optimize existing communication structures such as public meetings, educational programs, and personal connections. Explain natural resource laws, regulations, plans to stakeholders. Attend village, tribal council, Refuge Manager and staff meetings, provide written and oral reports, and receive briefings. Assist in scheduling Government-to-Government consultations and attend Refuge staff meetings. Participate in Rural Advisory Committee and AMBCC meetings, develop outreach materials during hunting and fishing seasons. Assist in integrating Yupik‑specific cultural content into Refuge education and outreach. Advocate for policies, laws, regulations benefiting Calista Shareholders and lands. Assist with selecting subsistence surveyors, summer hires, and services; arrange field logistics. Coordinate outdoor or resource‑related activities for youth and community events. Work in a safe manner and perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of traditional subsistence and cultural practices in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta region. Understanding of differences between Alaska Native and Western management practices. Practical knowledge of Yupik subsistence harvest practices and Western and Alaska Native laws. Working knowledge of land ownership patterns and regulations. Experience with oral and written communication, facilitation, cross‑cultural communication. Ability to develop and maintain rural community networks and manage projects. Strong familiarity with the State of Alaska environmental community. Leadership, counseling, motivation for a team environment. Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to summarise technical information. Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, promotional, educational materials. Detail‑oriented, organized, proactive follow‑up. Willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel frequently. Ability to speak Yupik and operate a motor vehicle safely. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field preferred. Two to four years of related experience; living in a remote village plus work experience considered. Ability to travel to remote areas using plane, boat, or ATVs. Ability to pass drug, background, and driving record screening. Working Environment & Physical Demands Moderate noise level; occasional weekend or evening work; travel to remote areas; physical, visual, mental demands as described. Preferences Preference will be given to Calista shareholders, descendants, and spouses of Calista shareholders, and shareholders of other corporations created pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, in accordance with Title 43 U.S. Code 1626(g).
