Construction Supervisor

Typical Tasks Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: plans, directs, and reviews work of individuals and the team; processes employee concerns and counsels as appropriate; recommends discipline or discharge; completes performance appraisals; participates in interviews and makes hiring recommendations; acts as liaison between employees and management; trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures. Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; schedules activities to meet objectives; develops and oversees work schedules; ensures employees have resources needed to complete work; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; consults with staff for complex issues; provides progress reports to management; updates department SOP manuals. Estimates job costs and needed equipment, parts, and materials; develops equipment and material lists to complete projects; ensures availability of parts and materials; requests new or replacement materials as required. Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment and tools associated with completing projects. Equipment operated may include but is not limited to road tractors, low boys, tandem dump trucks, and other heavy equipment. Employees may, on occasion, operate light equipment and tools as needed. Supervises utilization of safety equipment and protective gear; monitors work environment for safety; monitors traffic conditions around trucks/equipment; flags and directs traffic, places markers, signs, and cones to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; reports incidents, accidents, or unusual situations. Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e‑mail, or other software; operates general office or other equipment as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate’s or Technical degree with vocational training in the operation of CDL‑operated vehicles, plus a minimum of five years of progressively responsible construction management experience; or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge and skills to perform the essential functions. Class C Driver’s License. Must obtain a Class B within 6 months of hire and Class A within 1 year. Ability to obtain Hazmat endorsement within 12 months of hire. Ability to obtain NIMS 100, 200, and 700 within 6 months of hire. Knowledge of the basic operation and maintenance requirements of the equipment operated by this classification. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of employees and provide instruction in proper work methods and procedures, exercising effective communication and collaboration. Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to work tasks and handle practical situations using sound judgment. Physical Demands Exerting 50–100 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, or 10–20 lbs. constantly. Working Conditions This position requires work both indoors in an office setting and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
