Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12H Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC or TNS required Must-Have: Experience in emergency nursing, proficiency in titrating drips, ability to interpret cardiac rhythms, and experience working in a teaching hospital preferred Description: The Emergency Room serves a diverse patient population, ranging from newborns to the elderly. Nurses in this unit will encounter a wide variety of medical complaints, from minor to critical conditions. The team provides care for critically ill patients and those experiencing cardiac arrest. Patients with strokes and heart attacks are treated regularly. The unit includes both trauma bays and private beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios may vary from 1:3 to 1:5 based on acuity and department needs. General nursing skills and required certifications are essential for all candidates. Candidates should have at least two years of nursing experience and preferably one prior travel assignment. SANE RN experience is preferred. The department has a minimum of three physicians available, with two charge nurses on each shift. Charge nurses may assist in critical patient care but typically do not carry their own patient teams. Emergency Department techs are available with a typical ratio of 1:9. Respiratory therapists assist with equipment such as vents and CPAP. Nurses are expected to draw labs in cooperation with techs and phlebotomy staff. Shifts consist of 12 hours with requests for time off considered based on scheduling needs. Weekend work is expected on a rotating basis, as well as holiday shifts. There is no call requirement for travel nurses, but they may occasionally float to assist in other areas. Scrub colors should be tasteful and consist of solid colored shirts. Candidates should be familiar with electronic charting systems. Experience in interpreting and responding to cardiac rhythms using specific monitor systems is necessary.
